Exploring our Neighborhood - Palermo

Today is probably going to be the hottest day of our trip; at least I hope so.  Right now it's 96 degrees. So we decided to explore the area near our condo. Buenos Aires is a great walking city. It has wide sidewalks and lots of tree-lined streets. Although the sidewalks can be a little uneven at times; not from tree roots, but from the funky way they make their sidewalks.  They don't pour concrete slabs, they're created with lots of 1 x 1 foot concrete tiles in various colors and states of disrepair.
Our ultimate destination today was a large park with a Japanese garden. To get there we had to cross the Avenue del Libertador pictured here

This street and the Avenue of the 9th of July have got to be the widest boulevards I have ever seen. It was a hike just walking across it.
Not too far from here we found the Japanese Gardens. Trying to keep to the shade as much as possible, we explored the garden and then escaped to their air-conditioned restaurant.  Here are some pictures from inside the garden:
We saw koi or carp in this pond that looked to be about 2 feet long. This picture was taken from the restaurant's front porch.

I am really trying hard not to look like a tourist but my backpack containing the all important map and water bottle are a dead giveaway. Notice how nobody is wearing shorts and it's hot as blazes?
We did our best to spread lunch out over an hour and a half then made out way back to the apartment for a siesta.  We saw this nice courtyard in a colonial building along the way.

The gardens look lovely. Be sure to make it
To La Boca for lunch and Tango. It's a fun area. If the heat gets to much, think of us with ice back home. Love M and B
