Hiking and Rafting in Yangshuo March 12th

We hiked along a rural road past a couple of small villages. People keep their doors open with chickens scratching around the front yard. One old man kept motioning for us to come inside his house. We were curious, but afraid that he was trying to sell us something! Men and women were out working in their fields. Some women were washing their clothes in the river. As a matter of fact, when we gave some laundry to the hotel staff, it turns out that's where ours was washed too! And it was dried on a clothesline in the side yard. It's pretty funny - you get to see what kind of underwear all the guests are wearing.

After a couple of miles, we came to a dock with bamboo rafts (taxis) and negotiated a price for a ride down river; about $13. Our captain was the nice old man pictured below. He took our picture and sang in Chinese while he was poling the raft. He got us about half way back to the hotel. We hiked back the rest of the way.
